Product Description
New, unpainted ZF 68IV marine V-Drive transmission, part number 3312003207. Supersedes and replaces ZF 63IV (3312003013) and Hurth HSW630V1. It has internal improvements and is the same externally for direct interchangeability.
Transmission Specifications
Important Warranty Information
This transmission includes a 2 year ZF warranty (1 year for commercial duty). Upon receipt, the vessel owner should read and fill out the warranty page near the back of the owner's manual. Installation should always be performed by a trained professional.
ZF has a global service partner network should there be a problem that is covered under the warranty. Please be aware that claims, inspection, and work may be handled by a service partner, subject to their lead times and policies. If you are international, it is a good idea to use ZF's Marine Partner Finder to find the nearest one and make a note in your owner's manual.
Read all of the following carefully as it affects your warranty:
Oil Cooler
Always replace or service your oil cooler, and thoroughly flush the oil lines. If there had ever been water, metal particles, or other debris in the oil, or the old transmission failed or was slipping, reusing an oil cooler can cause debris to enter the new transmission, which can void the warranty and cause damage. If unsure, replace the oil cooler.
If you need a new oil cooler, you can view a list of coolers here. The transmission oil cooler will vary depending on the engine manufacturer or boat builder, so yours may not be listed.
Damper Plate
Also called a drive plate, this bolts to the flywheel and engages the transmission input shaft. It dampens the engine firing impulses to protect the transmission. An old, damaged, or worn out damper plate won't dampen the torsionals well, which can void the warranty and cause damage.
If you need a new damper, you can view a list of dampers here. Since there are many options, it is best to look on your existing damper for casting/part numbers to find a direct match. If this is a new installation or you're converting from a different type of transmission, seek professional guidance on the best damper to use.
Oil Changes and Fluid Types
Check your transmission oil level regularly and change it following the owner's manual guidelines. Never go more than a year between oil changes. Always use an ATF (automatic transmission fluid) that meets Detroit Diesel Allison C-4 specifications (examples: Dexron IIE, Dexron III). Do not use motor oil, even if your boat manual recommends it or there's a sticker on your existing ZF transmission. Using motor oil can void your warranty.
Oil Filter
Replace as needed following the owner's manual guidelines. Find replacement oil filters here.
Adapter Housing
The adapter housing is what connects the transmission to the engine bellhousing. You can usually reuse your existing one as long as it is not damaged. If you need a new one, see here for a list of common adapter housings.
